Busy weekend
Well, we spent most of the Memorial Day weekend working outside. Being outside was really great, especially since most of May had been slightly chilly and dreary. On Saturday we got up early (I was actually up before Paul!), and visited the local greenhouse where we purchased 6 Hungarian Hot Wax Pepper & 3 Jalapeno Pepper Plants. I needed these types of plants so I can can the "hot & sweet" peppers that my uncle Ike makes. We also bought 3 trailing petunia plants to go in the hanging baskets on the porch.
We moved the grass and I must say the new bagger for the John Deere mower is great! It makes a big difference not having to rake up the grass clippings. I planted my hanging baskets and finished planting the garden. We put in two new beds (10'x20') and I still ran out of space. Paul told me he didn't want to hear it, that the garden was big enough. We have peas, onions, radishes, asparagus, strawberries, watermelon (new this year), potatoes, 2 types of hot peppers, normal green peppers, tomatoes, green beens, yellow squash, and zucchini. I am hoping to have enough peas, potatoes and green beens to can for the winter.
On Sunday we went to a cookout, but Monday was again spent outside. I scrubbed down the front porch and put out the furniture and weeded some of the flower beds. Paul finished up the mowing and built my beautiful new clothesline. Now we will have summer fresh clothes!
I have some disappointing news about the chickens. I had to have new brakes put on the Kia, so I used the money set aside for the chicken coop, however do not fret the summer of chickens will still be taking place, just a month later. The chickens will arrive on July 7!
