Garden stuff
Well, since spring is here Paul & I decided to work on the garden this past Saturday. Really I needed a break from school work or was going to go crazy ;-)
Each year we have expanded the garden a little. The first year we made 1 raised bed, last year because we didn't want to have to expand the fence we made two smaller beds that ran along the fence. This year we went for the big expansion and put in 2 new large raised beds. We had enough fencing that we won't have to buy more, which is good. The beds are tiered because the hill has a slope. It is a good thing my husband is so handy because I don't think I would have had the patience to dig and make them level.
The new beds will be filled with something called bedding mix (soil, sand, and compost) that I order from a very cool place called Eagle Creek Garden Center. Paul took me there for my birthday, much to his delight! They have all kinds of neat things.
I also worked some SweetPeat into the existing large bed. Yes I turned it all by hand, and my back can attest to it. I planted 3 rows of peas, 1 row of radishes, and 1 row of bunching onions. This weekend I will plant some potatoes.
They will be followed by green beans, tomatoes, okra, hot peppers, yellow squash, and zucchini. There will probably be other things in there as the mood strikes me. My goal is to have enough to can for the winter and some to give away.
