I don't remember being that way...

So, I want you all to remember back (for some it will be way back, for others not so long ago) to when you were a college student. It seems to me the ones I deal with tend to be a little whiny, don't look at their syllabus to find out information and expect me to hand feed them the information for their assignments. Do they not realize that they came to college to learn how to "think and analysis for themselves". I am here to teach them how to be life-long learners, they don't want to go through life like cattle, beliveing everything everybody tells them, do they?
Am I being to cynical? Am I expecting too much? A few days ago I was helping a student who had a realling interesting research topic. They got upset because there were no articles that talked exactly about what they wanted. I explained what they needed to do was look up articles about the two main ideas of their research and then based on what they read, and draw their conslusions from that. I even gave an example of how to do it, the student looked at me like I was CRAZY!!!
So I am sending this question out to the people, what do you expect students to learn in college, or what did you learn?

seeing as I, the mighty Oz, am still in college - I don't necssarily want to learn anything. I just want the sheepskin so that I can actually get past the miinimum requirements portion of most job apps that I am qualified for even without the degree. Just give me the piece of paper that says I know it all, since I already do, and let me get on with life.

First of all...I totally agree with Paul aka the might Oz. Just give me the damn sheepskin because I've already been doing the work of all the idiots that somehow managed to become library directors and reference librarians...present company excluded of course. So I really don't care if I learn anything else along the way or not. But regarding today's youth...the future of America doesn't look real bright. They are lazy because we live in a society where any type of manual or mental labor is like nails across a chalkboard. We have remote controls to do things for us. We have video games to exercise for us. So why not have librarians to do the work and thinking for us. This would leave precious and valuable time for the youth to take care of more important things like bodypiercings and tattoos. So if we get graduates who are brainless to look forward to in the future, then nobody better gripe if I hire hot little co-eds to work for me wearing short shorts or miniskirts because obviously that will be their only talent. Works for me. Have a nice day!

Will the miniskirt employees have body piercings too?
