Miss Snappy

We had an interesting visitor yesterday. Paul noticed there was a turtle trying to get into the garden. Now I must admit my garden is looking very good, the strawberries are setting on and everything is green. However I never thought turtles would try to get in. A little while later Paul noticed that the turtle had moved to the left over pile of dirt we had out side the garden and that it stayed there for awhile. When we went up to investigate we found that it was a girl turtle and she was laying eggs! So being the librarian, I looked up different images on turtles and discovered we have a snapping turtle and it takes 80-90 days for the eggs to hatch and the sex of the baby turtles depends on the temperature of the soil around the eggs. Paul marked around the hole so we can make sure not to disturb the eggs.

That is very cool. Nice to know they've got folks like you to watch out for the newborns. While I was walking Moon yesterday I saw some turtles splashing around in the water just having a good ol' time.
